Delta State Contributory Health Commission Director-General Dr. Isaac Akpoveta has received an Award of Excellence at the 2026 National Summit of State Social Health Insurance Agencies in Akure, with the award recognizing both his personal leadership contributions and Delta State’s emergence as the top performer in social health insurance implementation nationally.
SSHIA Chairman Mohammed Safana said Delta had achieved exceptional progress in enrolment, service delivery, and the protection of vulnerable populations under Akpoveta’s leadership, and that his sustained advocacy for sustainable healthcare financing and his work building partnerships across the health sector had been widely observed and acknowledged throughout the industry.
Akpoveta dedicated the recognition to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Delta State Government, saying the award reflected the collective work of healthcare workers, development partners, and his commission team. He said it would motivate further efforts toward expanding coverage and improving access, and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to reducing the out-of-pocket costs that pushed households into financial hardship when health needs arose.
