Tinubu Swears In New Ministers for Power, Foreign Affairs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony took place on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and was attended by family members of the appointees, senior government officials, and other dignitaries.

The appointments followed the resignations of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue governorship ambitions in their respective states ahead of the next election cycle.

President Tinubu subsequently nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye to fill the vacancies, and both nominees were confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026.

Tegbe, a native of Ibadan in Oyo State, is widely regarded as an expert in fiscal management, economic reforms, and institutional development. With more than three decades of experience across both public and private sectors, he has built a reputation for driving policy implementation and fostering stakeholder engagement.

His appointment comes at a time when Nigeria’s power sector continues to grapple with challenges related to electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.

Enikanolaiye, who hails from Igbagun in Kogi State, brings extensive diplomatic experience to his new role. He graduated with a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he emerged as the best graduating student in his faculty and received the Dean’s Prize.

He later earned a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, graduating with distinction.

A seasoned diplomat, Enikanolaiye has represented Nigeria in several foreign missions, including postings in Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. His most recent overseas assignment was as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi, India.

Before his appointment as minister, he served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

The swearing-in marks the latest reshuffle in President Tinubu’s administration as the government seeks to strengthen key sectors and advance its policy agenda.
