INEC Chairman Visits South Korean National Assembly, Constitutional Court

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, on Tuesday visited the South Korean National Assembly and the Constitutional Court of Korea as part of the International Election Observation Programme (IEOP).

The visit formed part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation and deepen understanding of democratic institutions and electoral governance.

According to INEC, the engagement provided valuable insights into the role of South Korea’s electoral legal framework, particularly the contributions of the legislature and judiciary to the development, integrity, and credibility of the country’s democratic process.

During the visit, the delegation held discussions on the evolution of Korea’s democratic institutions and the mechanisms that support transparent and accountable elections.

The team also toured the National Assembly Museum and the Constitutional Court Museum, where they were exposed to the historical milestones that have shaped the Republic of Korea’s constitutional and democratic development.

INEC said the visit offered an opportunity to study best practices in electoral administration and democratic governance, while fostering knowledge exchange between electoral stakeholders from both countries.

The International Election Observation Programme is designed to promote collaboration among election management bodies and enhance understanding of global democratic processes through observation, dialogue, and institutional engagement.
