Peter Obi Meets British Business Leaders in London, Advocates Stronger Support for MSMEs

Peter Obi has reiterated the need for Nigeria to strengthen support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as a pathway to economic growth and job creation.

The former presidential candidate disclosed this on Tuesday following meetings in London with stakeholders in British politics and the business community, including Jonathan Marland.

According to Obi, discussions with Lord Marland focused on prospective trade opportunities, economic advancement, and strategies to promote small businesses across Nigeria.

He noted that the meeting underscored the importance of building a robust economy through deliberate investment in entrepreneurship and enterprise development.

Drawing comparisons with rapidly developing economies such as China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, Obi stated that sustainable economic growth and employment generation can only be achieved through strong support for MSMEs.

“As I have consistently asserted, our micro, small, and medium enterprises serve as the driving force behind economic growth, and it is imperative that we provide them with vigorous support to enhance development and create significant employment opportunities,” he said.

Obi further emphasized that sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing remain critical areas where MSMEs can drive productivity, industrial growth, and youth employment if adequately supported.

The meeting forms part of Obi’s ongoing engagements with international stakeholders on economic development, investment opportunities, and policies aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s productive sectors.
