INEC Declares Preparations Complete for Ekiti Governorship Election, Promises Credible Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared that it has concluded preparations for the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, assuring residents, political parties, and stakeholders of a credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral exercise.

Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, briefed journalists and stakeholders in Ado Ekiti on the commission’s state of readiness, confirming that the voter register was being finalized and would be released to political parties shortly, with dates for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards to be announced subsequently.

He said recruitment and screening of ad hoc personnel were ongoing, with successful applicants to be trained on electoral procedures, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, and result management protocols. Logistics arrangements for the procurement, movement, and secure storage of sensitive and non-sensitive materials were also underway, with security agencies engaged to guarantee the safe deployment of personnel and materials across the state.

He confirmed that election results would be electronically transmitted and uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal to ensure real-time transparency. Omoseyindemi identified vote buying, political violence, and misinformation as potential challenges and said the commission had intensified voter education and stakeholder engagement to address them, calling on political parties, voters, security agencies, and the media to discharge their responsibilities peacefully and responsibly.
