First Lady Declares Nigerian Women Capable of Leading Nation, Receives Women’s Charter at Mass Rally

Nigeria’s First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has declared that Nigerian women possess the capacity and the power to lead the nation to a greater future, delivering the declaration at the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja where she received a Women’s Charter for National Development on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing tens of thousands of women gathered from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, the First Lady said women, who constituted over 50 percent of the country’s population, were uniquely positioned to drive national change and shape the direction of governance in ways that went beyond participation to genuine leadership and institutional influence.

She commended Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim for delivering on a specific charge to put money directly in the hands of women, and said empowerment programmes that enabled women to make informed decisions about their lives produced benefits that extended through entire families and communities.

In her address, Sulaiman-Ibrahim described the gathering as the emergence of a coordinated and unstoppable force of 10 million women aligned deliberately across all 774 local government areas of the country. She presented the Women’s Charter to the First Lady, describing it as a social contract and policy compass representing the collective voice and strategic expectations of Nigerian women, covering greater political inclusion, increased representation, dedicated development financing, expanded economic opportunities, improved child welfare, and deeper inclusive governance.

The First Lady performed a symbolic handover of empowerment items including tricycles, power tillers, sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, and freezers to representatives of the gathering.
