Zenith Bank Donates N5m to Blind Association Ahead of White Cane Day

Zenith Bank Plc has donated N5 million to the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) in support of activities lined up for the 2026 International White Cane and Safety Day.

The donation, presented at the bank’s headquarters on October 9, is aimed at supporting awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts ahead of the annual observance scheduled for October 15.

Speaking during the presentation, Chairman of the NAB Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Babatunde Safiu, thanked Zenith Bank for the contribution, describing it as a significant boost to the association’s planned awareness walk and public sensitisation campaign.

He said the support would help amplify advocacy efforts for the rights, safety and independence of persons living with visual impairments.

International White Cane and Safety Day is observed globally to promote awareness of the white cane as a vital mobility tool for blind and visually impaired persons while highlighting the need for safer and more accessible public spaces.

The observance also draws attention to challenges faced by persons with disabilities, including unsafe roads, inaccessible public infrastructure and obstacles that restrict independent movement.

Representing the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, the Group Head, Research and Sustainability, Dr. Charles Ujomu, led the bank’s delegation at the presentation.

Other officials present included the Head of Research and Sustainability and Head of Health and Safety Unit, Mr. Rotimi Arowobusoye; Chairman of the Welfare Committee, Mr. Babatunde Mohammed; and Chairman of the 2026 International White Cane and Safety Day Committee, Mr. Adeola Aina.

The donation underscores the role of partnerships between corporate organisations and disability advocacy groups in promoting inclusion, accessibility and public awareness.
