World Bank Group Invests $25m in Jumia to Expand African Digital Commerce

The World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation has invested $25 million in Jumia Technologies as part of efforts to expand digital commerce and improve access to online markets across Africa.

The investment is intended to support the growth of Jumia’s logistics and e commerce operations, particularly in underserved markets.

The partnership is expected to help small businesses reach more customers while improving access to goods and services for consumers.

Jumia operates across several African countries and has built a network combining online marketplaces, payment systems and delivery infrastructure.

The investment reflects growing interest by development finance institutions in digital platforms capable of supporting entrepreneurship and market access.

IFC said stronger e commerce infrastructure could reduce barriers facing smaller businesses and promote greater participation in the digital economy.

The financing is also expected to help Jumia expand operational capacity and improve logistics efficiency.

The broader objective is to strengthen digital trade, create economic opportunities and support more inclusive private sector growth across African markets.
