Wike Predicts an Easy Win for Tinubu in 2027, Dismisses Opposition Threat

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has predicted a comfortable path to victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, dismissing the opposition as weakened and disorganised.

Speaking to reporters in reference to the recently concluded Osun State governorship poll, which the ruling party lost to a rival party, Wike argued that state level results depend heavily on local dynamics and cannot be read as a signal for a national contest. He said flatly that a 2027 race against Tinubu is effectively already decided, and criticised ADC candidate Atiku Abubakar and NDC candidate Peter Obi for internal party divisions and weak recent showings in state elections. He pointed to the influence of the so called G5 governors in the 2023 election as proof that opposition figures need substantial institutional backing to compete nationally, support he suggested neither man currently commands.

Wike also rejected claims that federal power was used to help the APC in Osun, saying critics making that argument have never actually witnessed what real federal interference looks like. He recalled soldiers deployed across Rivers State during the 2019 election as a genuine example, and said nothing comparable occurred in Osun.

Contrasting the current climate with 2023, which he described as tense and uncertain even for the sitting president at the time, Wike argued that removing a government requires years of sustained opposition organising rather than last minute alliance shopping, and credited the Tinubu administration with letting democratic processes play out without interference.
