Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced a cross-party mobilisation strategy involving stakeholders of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aimed at securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja, Wike declared himself the coordinator of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State.
The former Rivers State governor said political affiliations would not prevent coalition members from working together to achieve a common objective.
“For the presidency, all of us have agreed that it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike said.
“I am in charge of the FCT election. I am the commander of field operations as far as the FCT election is concerned.”
The gathering brought together APC and PDP stakeholders, including party chairmen, serving and former lawmakers, National Assembly candidates and leaders from the six area councils of the FCT.
Wike explained that the coalition was established to build a unified political front ahead of the 2027 general election and ensure collaboration among supporters regardless of party differences.
“I want to let all of you know that we are going to work together. Nobody should say, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.’ For the purpose of this election, we are together,” he said.
The minister cited the 2024 Edo State governorship election as an example of how political alliances could influence electoral outcomes, arguing that cooperation among political actors helped shape the result.
Making a case for Tinubu’s second-term bid, Wike pointed to infrastructure development and institutional reforms implemented within the FCT, insisting that all six area councils had benefited from the administration’s policies.
He specifically highlighted the establishment of the Women Affairs and Youth Development Secretariats, which he said had improved career opportunities for civil servants and expanded participation in governance.
Wike expressed confidence that the coalition would play a major role in delivering support for President Tinubu and allied candidates in the 2027 elections.
