Wema Bank Names 10-Year-Old as One-Day CEO in Children’s Day Ceremony

Wema Bank has appointed 10-year-old Chimamanda Diamond Ozoakpata as its one-day managing director and chief executive officer for Children’s Day, making her the youngest and first female to hold the ceremonial role since the bank launched the initiative in 2025.

Ozoakpata, head girl at Redeemers Foundation Nursery and Primary School, won the 2026 edition of the challenge after her one-minute video entry received more than 50,000 views. She follows 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah, who held the role in the inaugural edition.

Moruf Oseni, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, formally handed over the insignia of office to Ozoakpata at a ceremony at the bank’s head office, describing the initiative as rooted in the institution’s drive to show Nigerian children that their ambitions were achievable and that the tools and guidance needed to build financially literate, capable futures were within reach.

In her first act in office, Ozoakpata signed off on three new benefits for children with Royal Kiddies Accounts at the bank. These included birthday cash gifts of 5,000 naira and 10,000 naira for children turning five and ten respectively between May 2026 and May 2027, a 100,000 naira reward for each of the top 100 students in the National Common Entrance Examination beginning next month, and the launch of a STEM challenge school tour for children and teenagers.

The bank also distributed 500,000 naira in cash rewards to three children at the event and officially launched the Wema Bank Money Adventures financial literacy book for children aged six and above.
