President Bola Tinubu has declared that the era of neglecting suburbs of the Federal Capital Territory is over under his Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as his administration’s sacred covenant with Nigerians.
Speaking in Kurudu, Abuja, where he inaugurated a water supply network linking Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and other satellite towns, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said he had promised a government that listens, plans and delivers.
“We are here not just to cut a ribbon, but to breathe life into a fundamental human right that has eluded this bustling community for far too long. Today, we declare that the era of neglect for our satellite towns is officially over,” he said.
He recalled directing, at the inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project a year ago, that metropolitan loops must extend beyond elite districts into satellite towns. When FCT Minister Nyesom Wike brought the Karu Water Supply Project proposal, Tinubu said he did not hesitate, noting that denying clean water amounted to denying health, dignity and economic progress.
He said funding was approved on time and contractor CGC Nigeria Limited delivered promptly, commissioning more than 194 kilometers of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks. He praised Wike as “Mr Projects” and urged residents to guard the installations against vandalism and illegal connections.
Tinubu said the interventions were being replicated in Bwari and other Area Councils. Wike thanked the president for his support, while FCT Minister of State Mariya Bunkure commended his efforts. FCDA Executive Secretary Richard Dauda said the project used an existing reservoir and connected over 1,000 distribution lines to serve the satellite communities.
