Abuja, Nigeria – Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead Nigeria’s delegation to a high-level government-to-government engagement aimed at strengthening nutrition delivery and fostering cross-border collaboration on food and nutrition policies.
Shettima is participating in the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, a strategic forum designed to promote the sharing of best practices and experiences in addressing nutrition challenges through coordinated efforts at the federal, state and local government levels.
The Vice President’s visit comes at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who has spearheaded the country’s multi-sectoral approach to improving nutrition outcomes and enhancing food security.
As head of the Nigerian delegation, Shettima is expected to engage with key Ethiopian officials and stakeholders to explore how government-led initiatives can accelerate nutrition delivery, improve public health outcomes and strengthen food systems.
During the exchange programme, Nigerian delegates will study Ethiopia’s nutrition framework and assess successful models that have contributed to the country’s progress in nutrition interventions. The delegation will also undertake field visits to several agricultural, industrial and community-based projects linked to nutrition and food production.
Among the locations scheduled for inspection are a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia, the “Bounty of the Basket” Training Centre and selected households in Mojo, as well as Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.
The delegation accompanying the Vice President includes Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar Abubakar.
The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Ethiopia in the areas of nutrition, agriculture, food security and sustainable development.
Vice President Shettima is scheduled to return to Abuja upon the conclusion of his official engagements in Addis Ababa.
