Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma says governors of the five Southeast states have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid next year, based on what he described as verifiable evidence of the administration’s record in the region.
Speaking at a meeting with the Imo State Elders Council and Traditional Rulers Council in Owerri, Uzodimma, who chairs the South East Governors Forum, said the governors have concluded that Tinubu has done more for the zone than previous administrations, and urged residents to be cautious of political rhetoric built around marginalization narratives.
He said the region now has its own Development Commission for the first time in Nigeria’s history, following Tinubu’s signing of the South East Development Commission Act in 2024 and the inauguration of its board in early 2025. He also pointed to the reopening of the Port Harcourt to Aba rail line in 2024, describing it as directly connecting the South South to Abia State, and noted that Tinubu has since allocated three billion dollars to reconstruct the entire Eastern Rail Corridor running from Port Harcourt through the Southeast to Maiduguri.
On roads, he cited ongoing work on access roads to the Second Niger Bridge linking Anambra and Delta states, along with two newly approved road projects, a 108 kilometer road connecting Anambra to the North Central region and a 150 kilometer road linking Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway, which Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo welcomed as a turning point for the region.
Uzodimma said these achievements are visible and tangible, alongside broader national benefits including expanded student loans, higher federal allocations for states in the zone, and reduced vehicle import duties, arguing that the region now shares fully in the benefits enjoyed by the rest of the country while also receiving particular attention of its own.
