Minister of Works David Umahi has declared that he was responsible for weakening the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State and said he would not support any political arrangement that threatens Governor Francis Nwifuru’s re-election.
Umahi spoke during an inspection of the Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja Trans-Sahara Highway.
The former Ebonyi governor said he had no role in the political ambition of PDP governorship candidate Ifeanyi Odii and insisted that his political relationship with Nwifuru remained firm.
He also addressed the nomination of his son, Osborn, for the chairmanship of Ohaozara Local Government Area, saying the decision was made by Governor Nwifuru.
Umahi said he had advised his son to operate transparently, avoid unauthorized commitments and ensure that local government resources were used equitably across the area’s 11 wards.
He said Osborn had promised not to draw salary or allowances and argued that the nomination demonstrated goodwill from the governor.
The minister maintained that his support for Nwifuru and the APC would not be compromised by opposition political activity in the state.
Umahi’s remarks form part of the intensifying political positioning in Ebonyi ahead of the 2027 elections.
