Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) are working together to secure President Bola Tinubu’s victory in Anambra State in the 2027 presidential election.
Umahi made the declaration on Thursday while inspecting the ongoing Obosi-Ogbunike-Ogidi interchange road project, which links the Second Niger Bridge in Anambra State.
The minister, who described Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as his friend, said he had repeatedly told him that he would not win the 2027 presidential election.
“For those of you who go on social media and insult me, I want to tell you that Peter Obi is my friend and I used to tell him he cannot win,” Umahi said.
He argued that votes from the South-East alone would not be sufficient to produce Nigeria’s president, urging voters in the region to support the Tinubu administration and the APC in the forthcoming election.
Umahi expressed confidence that Tinubu would win the 2027 election, describing Anambra as a strong base for the president and claiming that progressive forces in the state were already working together.
“Tinubu is going to win in 2027. Anambra is a very strong base for Mr President and the progressives are working together here. In the last off-cycle election here, progressives took all the votes,” he said.
His comments echoed Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s earlier description of APC and APGA as progressive parties working together in Anambra.
Umahi also rejected claims that the South-East had been marginalised by the Federal Government, arguing that the Tinubu administration had demonstrated greater commitment to the region than previous governments.
He urged residents of the South-East to turn out and vote for the APC on election day, insisting that the region stood to benefit from supporting the president.
The minister further maintained that Tinubu would emerge victorious regardless of opposition to his prediction.
During the inspection of the road project, Umahi directed the contractors handling the Obosi-Ogbunike-Ogidi interchange to accelerate construction and ensure its timely completion.
He also instructed ministry engineers across the country to ensure that contractors strictly comply with approved specifications and construction standards.
The Acting Controller of Works in Anambra State, Engr. Timothy Emenike, commended Umahi for his regular inspection of road and infrastructure projects and his efforts to ensure compliance with construction standards.
