The interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has appealed to aspirants who were not given access codes by the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain calm, saying the matter is still before the court.
The faction also urged the aspirants to consider the experience of the party in Plateau State, where the Court of Appeal sacked elected lawmakers over issues linked to party structure.
Some aspirants who bought nomination and expression of interest forms from the Turaki led leadership had threatened to report the interim NWC to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, accusing it of selling forms despite not being recognized by INEC.
The group, known as Concerned PDP Aspirants, alleged that they spent hundreds of millions of naira on forms, publicity and logistics only to be shut out of the nomination upload process.
INEC had last week released access codes to the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, meaning candidates uploaded by that camp are presently the ones recognized on the commission portal.
The situation has raised concern among aspirants who fear they may suffer the kind of legal setback that affected PDP lawmakers in Plateau State after the 2023 elections.
In that case, the Court of Appeal in Abuja sacked 11 PDP lawmakers in the Plateau State House of Assembly, holding that their votes were wasted because of the party structural defect.
Reacting to the complaints, the National Publicity Secretary of the Turaki led NWC, Ini Emeombong, said the aspirants should remain calm because the dispute is a pre election matter pending before the court.
He said the faction remained confident in the legal process and believed it would be vindicated at the end of the case.
Emeombong added that INEC had not published the final list of candidates for the 2027 general election, insisting that the faction believed it was on the side of the law.
He urged the aggrieved aspirants not to act hastily, saying the final outcome of the court process would determine the matter.
