The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a registered member of the party under its leadership and personally participated in the party’s recent digital membership registration exercise, as the faction moved to dismiss a wave of social media campaign posters falsely linking Jonathan to various other political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the group warned Nigerians against associating Jonathan with any political platform outside the PDP and alerted the Independent National Electoral Commission to what it described as a deliberate campaign of misinformation and potential database manipulation by politically motivated actors.
The statement said posters circulating on social media falsely portrayed Jonathan either as a standalone presidential aspirant or as a running mate to various prominent Nigerians, with the logos of parties he had no affiliation with appearing on the materials.
The faction said Jonathan confirmed his PDP membership registration directly to members of the Interim National Working Committee during a meeting, describing the development as an unambiguous statement of his current political affiliation. “He duly registered personally in his ward during the recently concluded digital membership registration exercise,” the statement said. The faction warned that double party registration was not only prohibited under the Electoral Act but also punishable, and alleged that mischievous actors working with politically connected collaborators could attempt to enter the personal details of Jonathan and other prominent party members into the databases of rival parties without their knowledge or consent. It urged INEC to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activity and to disregard any such entries if discovered.
