Troops Rescue 92 Kidnap Victims in Borno Operation

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 92 kidnapped victims from Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

The rescue operation, which took place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, was carried out by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion deployed at Dutse Kura, according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

The freed victims comprised 52 men, 33 women, and seven children, who were reportedly being transported by the insurgents in eight vehicles before their rescue by the troops.

Uba said the operation was successful despite attempts by the fleeing terrorists to hinder the advancing forces. The insurgents reportedly planted three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the Bula Zarma–Mangari axis in a bid to slow down the military advance.

However, the devices were successfully detonated without causing harm to the troops or the rescued victims.

The military has continued to intensify operations in the North East, targeting insurgent groups and working to secure communities affected by years of conflict.

Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the victims or ongoing follow-up operations in the area.
