Troops Intercept 180 Explosives Allegedly Bound for Terrorists in North West

Nigerian troops have intercepted 180 units of explosives allegedly being transported to terrorist groups in the North West, according to the Defence Headquarters.

The explosives were discovered during an intelligence led operation along the Kaura Zurmi Road in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Director of Defence Media Operations Michael Onoja said troops arrested the person allegedly transporting the materials.

The military said another suspect connected with the same supply chain was arrested in Gusau on August 15.

Troops also arrested alleged collaborators of a terrorist commander along the Sakajiki Kwanar Guiwa Road in Kaura Namoda.

Cash and motorcycles said to be intended for delivery to the group were recovered.

These claims are based on military accounts and the suspects remain entitled to due legal process.

Between August 17 and 19, troops also rescued 28 abducted people in operations across Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states.

The victims were handed over to local authorities for reunification with their families.

The military said six additional alleged informants linked to previous abductions were arrested.

Another suspect was detained in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State for allegedly monitoring military deployments and equipment.

In the North East, the Defence Headquarters said dozens of people associated with terrorist groups surrendered during the review period.

The military attributed some of the surrenders to hunger, insecurity and factional fighting within militant enclaves.

Troops in Borno also arrested a suspect during a search operation and recovered ammunition.

In the South South, Operation Delta Safe troops disrupted three illegal refining sites in the Egbema axis of Rivers State.

About 85,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined diesel were recovered from pits, sacks and reservoirs.

The military said the operations formed part of simultaneous campaigns against terrorism, kidnapping, criminal networks and oil theft.
