President Bola Tinubu has pledged never to betray the trust Nigerians placed in him, insisting that the painful economic reforms his administration has pursued were necessary steps toward a stronger, more prosperous future rather than an end in themselves.
In a message delivered on his behalf by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the inauguration of executives for the PBAT Door to Door Movement, a nationwide political mobilisation platform, Tinubu told political leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, youth organisations and supporters that he is determined never to betray the trust Nigerians and the vision of a better Nigeria demand of him, arguing that sustained engagement with citizens forms the bedrock of democratic governance. Every great nation, he said, is built one citizen and one door at a time, since before any victory at the ballot box comes a confrontation at every door, urging movement members to use the campaign to explain government policy and achievements while encouraging citizens to stay committed to democratic participation, telling them to knock on doors and explain the dividends of good governance after people vote, since that is how democracy endures.
Defending the sweeping economic reforms his administration has pursued over three years, Tinubu argued genuine national progress often demands difficult decisions and temporary sacrifice, insisting the reforms were never meant to make life harder for citizens but to correct long standing structural distortions and build a foundation future generations can stand on, since lasting progress rarely comes without enduring sacrifice. Nations become great, he said, by confronting hard challenges with courage rather than avoiding them, expressing confidence that the reforms will ultimately deliver sustained growth and better living standards, pointing to three years of reform work as evidence that Nigeria’s future is genuinely brighter. He stressed that good governance succeeds only when the executive, legislature and citizens agree to work together, and warned against letting political differences undermine national unity, arguing Nigeria’s collective interest must outweigh any party, office holder or election, urging Door to Door Movement supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully while spreading a message of hope, so that every door leads toward renewed hope for a greater, more prosperous Nigeria.
Tinubu specifically commended High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, and the movement’s members for organising the grassroots campaign, calling it a demonstration of patriotism and describing the nation as united whenever it is called upon. Tantita Security Services Nigeria Managing Director Kestin Pondi, representing the movement’s grand patron Tompolo, described the inauguration as the start of a nationwide citizens’ mobilisation campaign designed to build public support for the president’s Renewed Hope agenda.
