Tinubu Urges North-Central Leaders and Communities to Deepen Cooperation against Insecurity

President Bola Tinubu has urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, communities, youths, women, private-sector actors and development partners in the North-Central to strengthen cooperation with government and security agencies in tackling insecurity.

Tinubu made the call at the 2026 North Central Regional Security Summit in Makurdi, where he was represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.

The President said traditional and religious leaders should serve as early-warning channels and trusted voices for reconciliation.

He also urged citizens to share credible intelligence with security agencies and avoid shielding criminals because of kinship or local loyalties.

Tinubu said insecurity crossed state boundaries and institutional mandates, making cooperation necessary among security agencies and different levels of government.

He warned that rivalry, duplication and failure to share information could slow responses to criminal activity.

The President said his administration had strengthened cooperation among the Armed Forces, police and intelligence services while investing in equipment and operational capability.

He also cited efforts to rebuild domestic defence production through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria framework.

Tinubu said troop welfare remained important to operational effectiveness.

He commended security personnel for reported gains against terrorist and criminal groups and paid tribute to those killed in service.

The government says several terrorist commanders have been neutralized, fighters have surrendered and some communities have been restored to relative normalcy.

Those operational claims are based on official security reporting.

The President also called on women and young people to participate more actively in peace-building.

He urged investors and development partners to see the North-Central not only as a region facing security challenges but also as an area with significant agricultural and economic potential.

The summit focused on collaborative approaches to security and regional stability.
