Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Replaces Finance Minister Edun in FEC Shake-Up

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, effecting changes in the composition of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as part of efforts to strengthen economic management and governance delivery.

In a directive conveyed through a memo signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, two ministers Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa are to exit the cabinet, with immediate replacements announced.

Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who now assumes the role. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry and is expected to lead the government’s fiscal and economic coordination efforts.

In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the new ministerial nominee for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, replacing Dangiwa, who has also been instructed to complete a formal handover to the Minister of State in the ministry.

The presidency directed that all transition processes be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.

According to Akume, the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing cohesion within the cabinet and driving more impactful implementation of the administration’s policy agenda. He noted that the changes are part of broader efforts to improve synergy in governance and accelerate economic reforms under the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The statement emphasised that the president exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the adjustments.

Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service, wishing them success in their future endeavours. He reiterated that cabinet reforms would remain an ongoing process as the administration seeks to reposition key sectors of the economy and deliver on its development priorities.

The reshuffle comes amid increasing focus on economic performance and public expectations for improved service delivery, with analysts viewing the changes as a signal of the administration’s intent to recalibrate its policy execution strategy.
