Tinubu Congratulates By-Election Winners as APC Claims Four of Five Seats

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of the legislative by-elections conducted on Saturday across five constituencies in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states, following the declaration of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The by-elections were held to fill vacancies in one federal constituency and four State House of Assembly constituencies, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerging victorious in four of the five contests. The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) secured the remaining seat in Bauchi State.

The APC winners include Kallamu MaiJama’a, who won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat in Gombe State; Husseini Datti, elected to represent Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State; Okolosi Ator, who clinched the Udu State Constituency seat in Delta State; and Yakubu Ali, winner of the Disina State Constituency election in Bauchi State.

The sole seat won by the APM was the Sakwa State Constituency seat, secured by Adamu Yakubu.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the results as a reflection of the continued support Nigerians have for the APC and the reforms being implemented by his administration.

The President said the outcome of the elections demonstrated growing grassroots confidence in the party and expressed optimism that the benefits of the administration’s economic and governance reforms would become more evident in the coming years.

He urged Nigerians to remain committed to the reform agenda, noting that the government was focused on delivering sustainable development and improved living standards for citizens.

Tinubu also called on the newly elected lawmakers to justify the confidence reposed in them by their constituents through effective, responsive and diligent representation.

The President further appealed to candidates who were unsuccessful in the polls to accept the outcome in the spirit of democracy and continue contributing positively to the country’s political development.

He commended voters for their peaceful conduct during the elections and praised security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the exercise.

Tinubu equally lauded INEC for conducting the polls and encouraged the electoral body to build on the experience gained from the by-elections by addressing any identified challenges ahead of future elections.

The by-elections are among the electoral activities leading up to Nigeria’s next general elections, which INEC has scheduled for January 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly polls, and February 6, 2027, for governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
