Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured citizens that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unyielding in his commitment to restoring peace and security across Nigeria, promising that ongoing government efforts will secure the safe release of all citizens currently held by bandits and terrorists.
Speaking shortly after a special Juma’at prayer service held at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday to mark the country’s Democracy Day celebrations, the Vice President acknowledged the immense sacrifices of past heroes who safeguarded Nigeria’s democracy and urged the public to remain resilient.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation,” Vice President Shettima stated. “No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation.”
The Vice President emphasized that the shared bonds uniting Nigeria far outweigh its internal differences, calling on citizens nationwide to fervently pray for collective peace, unity, and one another.
During the sermon, the Imam of the National Mosque, Haroun Eze, echoed these sentiments, urging the congregation to remain patriotic and steadfast in defending the country. The cleric directly appealed to leaders at all levels of governance to take decisive actions against prevailing security threats, describing national peace as an indispensable foundation for development and citizen well-being.
The annual Democracy Day prayer service serves as a period of national reflection, highlighting Nigeria’s democratic milestones while addressing its pressing security and socioeconomic hurdles.
The high-profile event drew several prominent dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola; and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Other notable officials in attendance included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; and the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
