Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked friends, associates and supporters to keep celebrations of his 60th birthday on September 2, 2026, low key and avoid congratulatory advertisements or elaborate public events.
Shettima said public attention should remain focused on national development rather than personal celebration.
In a statement issued by his media aide Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President asked well wishers not to place paid messages in newspapers or on radio, television and digital platforms.
He also requested that no public birthday gatherings be organized in his honor.
Instead, Shettima asked supporters to direct their goodwill toward prayers for Nigeria.
He specifically called for prayers for the success of the government’s economic reforms, improved national security, greater unity and peace.
The Vice President said he wanted the milestone to serve as a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to public service.
Separately, Shettima departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where he is representing President Bola Tinubu at an extraordinary African Union summit.
The meeting is focused on conflict resolution and long term peace and security across the continent.
Shettima is expected to deliver the President’s address and present Nigeria’s position on strengthening African mechanisms for conflict prevention and dispute resolution.
He travelled with senior defence and security officials.
Nigeria has historically played an active role in regional peacekeeping, mediation and security diplomacy.
The Vice President is expected to return after completing his engagements in Angola. The two developments place his birthday appeal alongside ongoing official responsibilities in continental security diplomacy
