The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria held by Chief Mike Ozekhome has been suspended by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee while a disciplinary case against him runs its course.
Reached at the committee’s 173rd General Meeting, the decision rested on Paragraph 26(6) of the rules governing the conferment of the rank, according to a notice issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and committee secretary, Kabir Akanbi.
Akanbi said the matter was before the committee’s Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, and that Ozekhome was barred from describing or presenting himself as a Senior Advocate until the case was concluded.
The committee said the step was meant to protect the standing and prestige of the rank while the allegations were examined, adding that it remained committed to upholding professional ethics and public confidence in the title.
