The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru will both win reelection in 2027, citing the appointment of David Umahi as Minister of Works as a turning point for the party in the state.

The senator, who represents Ebonyi North, noted that Umahi’s appointment marked the first time since independence that an indigene of Ebonyi State and an Igbo man has held the position.

He made the remarks in Abuja at an endorsement rally organized by the Ebonyi community in the Federal Capital Territory, where political leaders and stakeholders from the state unanimously endorsed Tinubu, Nwifuru, the state’s three senators and all its House of Representatives members for a second term ahead of the 2027 elections.

The leaders said Ebonyi remained firmly aligned with the All Progressives Congress, pointing to what they described as the administration’s infrastructure record and growing federal presence in the South East.

Moving the motion for endorsement, Nwaebonyi said the people of Ebonyi and the wider South East had good reason to back the reelection of Tinubu and other party candidates, declaring that the state stood fully behind the ruling party.

He said Umahi’s appointment had reshaped political calculations in the South East and strengthened the case for a unified vote for the party in the state, noting that it was the first time since 1960 that an Igbo man from Ebonyi has held the works portfolio.

The lawmaker pointed to the ongoing dualization of the Enugu, Aba and Port Harcourt road corridor as visible proof of the administration’s impact, saying a trip that once took up to six hours was being transformed through the partnership between Tinubu and Umahi.
