Senate Confirms Marwa for NDDC Board, Opens Screening for AMCON Chair Nominee

The Senate has confirmed Zainab Marwa as the North East’s representative on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission and opened the confirmation process for Lamido Yuguda Abubakar as Chairman of the Board of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, moves aimed at filling leadership gaps at two key federal intervention agencies.

Marwa’s confirmation followed adoption of a report from the Senate Committee on NDDC, presented by Vice Chairman Patrick Ndubueze standing in for committee chairman Asuquo Ekpenyong, after the nominee was screened and found qualified; the Senate approved the recommendation by voice vote supervised by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. President Tinubu had forwarded Marwa’s nomination in May to replace Abdulrazak Namdas, who resigned from the board on March 30, 2026 to pursue a governorship bid in Adamawa State, with Tinubu explaining in his nomination letter that the appointment was meant to preserve North East representation on the board and keep the commission’s operations running without interruption.

In the same sitting, the Senate received a separate communication from Tinubu seeking confirmation of former Securities and Exchange Commission Director General Lamido Yuguda Abubakar as AMCON board chairman, a nomination made under the relevant provisions of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria Amendment Act following the exit of the corporation’s immediate past chairman. Tinubu urged the Senate to give the nomination expeditious consideration, and Akpabio referred it to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, directing the committee to screen Yuguda and report back within two weeks for possible confirmation.
