Security a Shared Responsibility, Says CDS Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has said that security is not the responsibility of government alone but a collective national undertaking that requires the active participation of all citizens.

Speaking at The Platform Nigeria, General Musa stressed that achieving lasting peace and security in the country depends not only on the capabilities of the military and other security agencies but also on the actions, choices and cooperation of Nigerians.

He noted that national unity, community engagement and responsible citizenship remain critical factors in addressing the complex security challenges confronting the nation.

According to the Defence Chief, sustainable security can only thrive in an environment where trust exists between citizens and institutions, communities reject criminality, and individuals see themselves as stakeholders in the country’s development and stability.

General Musa emphasized the need for greater collaboration between security agencies and the public, urging Nigerians to support efforts aimed at safeguarding lives, property and national assets.

He said the fight against insecurity requires collective action, vigilance and a shared commitment to promoting peace and social cohesion across the country.

The Defence Chief’s remarks highlighted the importance of citizen participation in national security efforts and underscored the role of communities in preventing crime, combating extremism and fostering a safer society.

He called on Nigerians to look beyond government interventions and embrace their individual and collective responsibilities in building a secure and prosperous nation.
