Sanwo Olu Says Nigeria Is Moving Toward One Trillion Dollar Economy

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has expressed confidence that Nigeria is moving toward the Federal Government’s target of building a one trillion dollar economy by 2030.

The governor said reforms under President Bola Tinubu were improving the investment environment and creating opportunities for stronger economic growth.

Speaking during a meeting with Reno Omokri, Sanwo Olu pointed particularly to changes in the oil and gas sector.

He said fuel availability had improved and argued that recent policies aimed at attracting new capital into the energy industry could unlock substantial investment.

Sanwo Olu also cited pension adjustments and other social interventions as evidence that the administration was attempting to spread the benefits of economic reform.

Omokri, speaking at the same engagement, argued that the impact of federal reforms could be seen in increased allocations to states, higher wages, student loans and infrastructure projects.

He cited Osun State as an example of a state receiving significantly higher federal allocations than before the Tinubu administration.

Omokri also referred to the national minimum wage, education loan programme and major road projects as evidence of wider economic changes.

He claimed Nigeria had recorded sustained economic expansion, stronger manufacturing output and successive trade surpluses.

The remarks were political assessments offered by Sanwo Olu and Omokri in support of the current administration and should be understood in that context.

Sanwo Olu nevertheless maintained that the direction of policy and investment suggested Nigeria remained on course toward a much larger economy within the coming years.
