Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has announced N20 million each for the best graduating students of the 2024 2025 and 2025 2026 academic sessions at Lagos State University.
The two awards, totalling N40 million, were announced during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies at the university’s Ojo campus.
Ayilara Lawal Olawale emerged best graduating student for the 2024 2025 session with a 4.96 cumulative grade point average in Project Management Technology.
Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide led the 2025 2026 session with a 4.97 cumulative grade point average in Aerospace Engineering.
Sanwo Olu urged the more than 20,000 graduands to use their education, character and skills to solve problems and contribute to society.
The governor described the ceremony as his sixth and final convocation as Visitor to the university and reflected on LASU’s growth during his tenure.
He highlighted the university’s increased student demand, improved rankings, research achievements and selection as the South West location for a TETFund centre focused on artificial intelligence, robotics and cyber sciences.
Sanwo Olu also listed infrastructure projects undertaken by the state, including a major library complex, a student union building, accommodation projects and new lecture facilities.
He said Lagos had expanded the number of state owned universities and was pursuing another specialised institution for medicine and health sciences.
The governor encouraged corporate organisations, alumni and philanthropists to support LASU through research funding, scholarships, laboratories and endowments.
The ceremony also marked the final convocation presided over by Vice Chancellor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello.
Sanwo Olu praised her tenure, citing improvements in academic programmes, research, digital services, accreditation and infrastructure.
The university said internally generated revenue increased from about N3 billion in 2021 to N13 billion in 2025 and that more than 50 infrastructure projects were completed during the period.
Honorary doctorate degrees were conferred on Aliko Dangote, Akin Kekere Ekun and Bola Adesola.
Dangote, represented by his daughter Fatimah, announced that first class engineering graduates from LASU would be considered for employment opportunities in the Dangote Group after completing national service.
