Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented land allocation letters to 98 existing communities in the Ito-Omu and Sangotedo areas of Ibeju-Lekki, describing the exercise as a major step toward inclusive and orderly development in one of the state’s fastest growing corridors.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Sanwo-Olu said the initiative was not merely about allocating land but about recognizing long established communities and ensuring rapid urban expansion does not displace them, noting that beneficiary communities have contributed to the area’s development for generations through farming, fishing and trading. He said the exercise followed years of consultation beginning in 2021 with traditional rulers and residents, alongside detailed site surveys and a comprehensive development plan prepared by the Lagos State New Towns Development Authority.
The governor said the allocation letters represent official recognition of the communities and will provide greater certainty as government implements its long term development plans for the area, which include improved road networks, drainage infrastructure and a proposed waterfront jetty to enhance connectivity, urging residents to continue working with government agencies to ensure orderly development.
