Former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has challenged retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State Gen. Sani Abacha, to produce CCTV footage of Abacha’s final hours if he disputes the account contained in his memoir.
Amachree, the author of DSS@40, said Al-Mustapha should back his denial with evidence instead of dismissing the claims in the book as false.
He maintained that the memoir was subjected to official scrutiny by the DSS before it was published, adding that the agency also endorsed the publication during activities marking its 40th anniversary.
According to Amachree, the book passed the necessary institutional vetting process, making its contents credible and not merely personal assertions.
His remarks come amid renewed public debate over the circumstances surrounding the death of Gen. Sani Abacha, following Al-Mustapha’s rejection of claims made in the memoir.
Amachree insisted that anyone challenging the account should present verifiable evidence, particularly CCTV footage from Abacha’s final moments, rather than relying on blanket denials.
