Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force is fully prepared to provide adequate security for the 2027 General Election.
Disu gave the assurance during a reception organised in his honour by the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys’ Association (SGCOBA) at the Naval Dockyard in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event also honoured the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, and featured the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards as well as the launch of the association’s Endowment and Perpetual Fund.
Speaking on electoral security, the police chief cited the peaceful conduct of the recent governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states as evidence of the force’s growing capacity to manage election-related security challenges.
“You brought in the issue of election. I want you to look back at the Ekiti election, everybody commended the Nigerian Police,” Disu said.
He added that the Osun governorship election was conducted without loss of life despite fears of violence.
The IGP disclosed that the police recently organised a conference for commanders across the country, during which strategic directives were issued to enhance preparedness for future electoral assignments.
Disu also credited St. Gregory’s College for shaping his values and professional development, describing the recognition from the old boys’ association as one of the most meaningful honours of his career.
