The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of Mariam Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area, following a series of alleged assaults that resulted in her death.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, and made available to journalists in Lokoja.
According to the statement, the case was reported to the police on June 25, 2026, after the victim succumbed to injuries sustained during separate attacks.
“The Kogi State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation of a culpable homicide case reported on 25th June, 2026, following the death of one Mariam Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area,” the statement read.
The police said detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, launched an intensive investigation, which led to the arrest of three suspects linked to the incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on June 17, 2026, one Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary action she had taken against his 11-year-old son while carrying out her duties at the school.
Police further alleged that later the same day, while Mariam was on her way to a mosque for prayers, she was again attacked by one Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
The statement added that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, identified as the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School and assaulted the victim at her workplace.
Following the attacks, the deceased was initially treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka before being referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical care. However, she died from her injuries on June 25.
According to the police, investigations established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects—Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka.
“The investigation has been concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” the command stated.
Commending the investigators, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, praised the professionalism and dedication of detectives from the Homicide Section of the SCID in ensuring that those responsible were brought to justice.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and assured residents that all criminal cases would continue to receive thorough and professional investigation.
The police commissioner also urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, advising residents to resolve disputes through lawful means and continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information to enhance crime prevention and public safety.
