Peter Obi Condemns Renewed Killings in Benue and Plateau States

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has condemned a fresh wave of killings in Benue and Plateau states, describing the violence as painful and demanding urgent government action.

Writing on social media, Obi said reports of at least sixteen people killed in the Otukpo Nobi community of Benue State, alongside nine members of one family, including a two month old baby, killed in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, show that the cycle of bloodshed in the region has persisted for far too long. He said families across affected communities have lived under constant fear and displacement, and that protecting lives remains government’s primary responsibility, calling for a proactive, intelligence driven security approach rather than routine condemnations after each attack, and insisting those responsible be identified and prosecuted to end the culture of impunity. He extended condolences to affected families and said restoring security requires collective national will rather than political point scoring.
