The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports alleging that it is planning a convention to affirm former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the party, the PDP said no such convention, meeting, or endorsement process has been scheduled or approved by any recognised organ of the party.
The party urged its members, supporters, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard what it called “unauthorised” information, insisting that the reports were intended to create confusion within the political space.
The PDP further clarified that it has already concluded all its primary elections, including governorship, National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly, and presidential primaries, in line with the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the party’s constitution.
According to the statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, all primaries were conducted peacefully and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The party also called on Goodluck Jonathan to publicly distance himself from what it described as a “charade,” saying such actions were necessary to protect both his reputation and the integrity of the democratic process.
It further urged security agencies to investigate the source of the reports and take appropriate action against those responsible, alleging that the misinformation was intended to create political tension.
“The PDP will henceforth not fold its arms and allow the party to be dragged into disrepute through falsehood, misinformation, and unauthorised political activities,” the statement read.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, due process, and adherence to the rule of law, adding that members of the public should rely only on official communications from authorised party officials.
