A coalition of labour unions in Osun State has formally declared support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, citing improvements in worker welfare under his administration and warning the federal government against any interference in the state’s electoral process.
The joint labour movement, comprising the Joint Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and Nigeria Labour Congress, held a mobilization event at the State Assembly Pavilion where leaders from multiple affiliates pledged their organizations’ backing and urged members to campaign actively for the governor’s return.
Union leaders cited the payment of arrears of previously withheld half salaries, the implementation of the new national minimum wage, and broad infrastructure development across the state as the primary reasons for their endorsement. They said Osun’s minimum wage implementation had moved the state from 34th to 3rd in national rankings, representing a concrete improvement in conditions for workers.
The union leaders charged each member to mobilize at least 25 additional supporters and urged them to vote and ensure others did the same on polling day. They also specifically admonished President Bola Tinubu not to turn Osun into a political battleground, appealing for the right of residents to vote freely for their preferred candidate without federal pressure.
A representative of the state House of Assembly leadership thanked the unions for their support and encouraged members to be prepared, avoid intimidation, and exercise their constitutional voting rights.
