Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Reveals Foiled Bomb Plot Against Government House

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has disclosed that security agencies foiled an alleged plot to bomb the Ondo State Government House approximately three to four months ago, following intelligence reports that led operatives to raid a location where suspects had been staying after relocating from a hotel, and where materials and equipment believed to be connected to the planned attack were discovered.

Aiyedatiwa made the disclosure during an appearance on a national television program while reflecting on the security situation in Ondo State, following the conviction of suspects linked to the June 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo. He said police and the Amotekun regional security outfit moved in, arrested the suspects, and they remained in custody, though investigators had not yet established the exact motive behind the alleged plot.

The governor said the incident illustrated the broader point that many successful security operations never received public attention because attacks were prevented before they occurred, and that a great deal of work was being done that was not visible until a lapse occurred. He said South-West governors were working closely together to strengthen safety and intelligence gathering, and that recent meetings among the governors had focused on enhancing collaboration through regional security outfits including Amotekun.

He welcomed the conviction of four persons linked to the Owo church massacre, describing the judgement as a major victory for justice and the rule of law and for all victims of terrorist attacks.
