A presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has taken aim at former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing his recent political moves as opportunistic and self-serving ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Onanuga alleged that Obi was shifting political ground once again, characterising him as a “political nomad” and questioning his consistency in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Onanuga further claimed that Obi was avoiding internal competition within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), suggesting he would be unable to contend with prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi for the party’s presidential ticket.
He also criticised Obi’s approach to governance issues, accusing him of focusing on blaming the government rather than engaging in self-assessment.
The remarks come amid growing political realignments and early manoeuvring among key actors ahead of the 2027 elections, with several opposition figures exploring new platforms and alliances.
As of the time of reporting, Obi has not publicly responded to the comments.
