Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has described the state’s 35 years since creation as a period of substantial progress and credited successive administrations and residents for sustaining peace and development.
Oborevwori spoke during a thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel in Asaba to mark the anniversary of Delta State’s creation on August 27, 1991.
He said the occasion was both a celebration and an opportunity to assess the state’s development trajectory.
The governor acknowledged contributions made by previous administrations and said his government would continue building on existing foundations.
He argued that gratitude for past achievements had to be matched by responsibility for future development.
Oborevwori said Delta’s progress had depended on the resilience of its people, relative peace among communities and continued investment in public infrastructure and services.
The governor pledged that his administration would maintain what he described as a progressive trajectory toward a stronger state.
He said the anniversary should encourage citizens to look beyond political differences and focus on common development goals.
The administration is expected to use the milestone to reinforce its MORE Agenda and present ongoing projects as part of the state’s next phase of growth.
Oborevwori said the central responsibility was to ensure that the progress recorded over the past 35 years translated into greater opportunity and improved living standards in the years ahead.
