NRM Unveils Esther Okereke as Consensus Presidential Candidate for 2027

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has formally unveiled Esther Nkem Okereke as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, pledging to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Nigeria Democratic Congress at the polls.

The announcement was made on Friday during the party’s presidential primary in Abuja, where NRM leaders described Okereke’s emergence as a significant milestone reflecting the party’s commitment to gender inclusion, youth participation, and national development.

Party officials said the decision to adopt a consensus candidate underscores the NRM’s resolve to present what it described as a credible alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s political, economic, and social challenges.

In her acceptance speech, Okereke outlined an ambitious agenda focused on education, power supply, security, healthcare, and job creation. She pledged to declare a state of emergency in the education and electricity sectors, while also prioritising reforms aimed at strengthening national security and improving public service delivery.

The NRM presidential candidate said her administration would pursue the modernisation of security institutions, accelerate the digitisation of government processes, expand access to quality healthcare, and stimulate economic growth through entrepreneurship, industrialisation, and youth-focused employment programmes.

She maintained that Nigeria requires bold and innovative leadership to tackle its pressing challenges and unlock the country’s development potential.

Party leaders expressed optimism that the emergence of a female presidential candidate would resonate with Nigerians seeking a fresh political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NRM said it is positioning itself as a reform-oriented platform committed to rebuilding public trust in governance and offering voters a viable alternative as preparations for the next general election gather momentum.
