NNPP Chairman Accuses Kwankwaso of Using Party as Personal Bargaining Chip

New Nigerian Peoples Party National Chairman Agbo Gilbert Major has accused former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of using the party purely to advance his personal political interests during the 2023 election.

Speaking in a television interview, Major, who served as the party’s image maker, said Kwankwaso barely campaigned outside Kano and a few neighboring areas during the 2023 presidential race, abandoning the Southeast, Southwest and other regions entirely, which he said made clear that his real interest lay in retaining influence in his home state rather than genuinely contesting for the presidency. Kwankwaso, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, is now running as vice presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress in the 2027 election. Major said the party remains active, having recently concluded the process of fielding its National Assembly and presidential candidates.
