NIS Graduates 1,626 Officers, Charges Personnel on Professionalism

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has graduated 1,626 officers from its Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course, 2026, with the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, charging them to uphold professionalism and embrace technology in tackling emerging border-security challenges.

The officers graduated during a ceremony held at the Immigration Training School in Kano and the Digital Bridge Institute.

The training formed part of the service’s efforts to strengthen its operational capacity through continuous professional development.

Nandap, who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resources Management, Samuel Agba, said the changing nature of border management required officers to combine their statutory responsibilities with technological competence and sound professional judgment.

She congratulated the graduates and urged them to maintain high professional standards in the discharge of their duties.

According to her, technology has become a critical tool in addressing contemporary challenges associated with border security and migration management.

The Comptroller-General also reaffirmed the NIS commitment to continuous training, upgrading and staff welfare, describing human-capital development as essential to building an effective and responsive immigration service.

The Commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano, CIS AN Akuneme, described the number of cadets mobilised for the course as unprecedented in the institution’s history.

He urged the officers to adapt to the changing dynamics of border management by facilitating legitimate migration while preventing irregular migration and trans-border threats.

Akuneme said the training was designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to address the complex demands of modern immigration administration.

The ceremony featured merit awards for outstanding participants, while an ultra-modern market constructed by the course participants was also commissioned.

Representatives of various security agencies, alongside serving and retired senior NIS officers, attended the event.
