Nigeria, Turkey Explore Deeper Maritime Partnership

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to attracting investments into Nigeria’s fisheries and blue economy sectors as part of efforts to expand economic opportunities and modernise the industry.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of Turkish fishing investors from CRD Impex, led by Cem Tarhan, in Abuja.

Oyetola said investments in Nigeria’s fisheries sector would complement rather than displace the millions of Nigerians who depend on artisanal fishing and related activities for their livelihoods.

He noted that while the sector faces significant challenges, these also present opportunities for investors interested in improving the fisheries value chain, enhancing productivity and creating jobs.

The minister assured the delegation that the Federal Government remains committed to creating a conducive environment for both local and foreign investors in the marine and blue economy sector.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Cem Tarhan said CRD Impex possesses extensive experience in fisheries and aquaculture operations in Turkey and is keen to deploy its expertise and investment capacity in Nigeria.

As part of the engagement, the Turkish investors toured several fisheries and aquaculture facilities across Nigeria to assess investment prospects and gain firsthand insight into the country’s fisheries value chain.

The visit is expected to strengthen economic cooperation between Nigeria and Turkey in the maritime sector.
