Nigeria and China have signed a new agreement aimed at expanding cooperation in film, television and cultural exchange.
The agreement between China Movie Channel and the Nigerian Television Authority was signed at the China Nigeria Film and Literature Symposium in Abuja.
It provides a framework for content exchange, film production, professional training, technology transfer and wider distribution of creative works from both countries.
The partnership comes as Nigeria and China mark 55 years of diplomatic relations and seek to deepen cultural ties beyond traditional political and economic engagement.
Chinese Ambassador Yu Dunhai said literature and film could strengthen mutual understanding and preserve national identity.
He noted the growing audience for Nigerian writers in China and for Chinese cultural works in Nigeria.
The ambassador also highlighted the size of both film industries, pointing to China’s extensive cinema market and the large annual output of Nollywood.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy said the agreement supports efforts to make the creative sector a stronger source of employment, exports and national income.
NTA Director General Salihu Dembos said the partnership would help broadcasters and filmmakers share programmes, develop skills and reach new audiences.
Writers and cultural stakeholders at the event also described the initiative as an opportunity to strengthen people to people relations through storytelling, literature and screen production.
