NECO Releases 2026 Basic Education Results, Sets Resit Dates

The National Examinations Council has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, which drew 186,291 candidates across 12 subjects.

In a statement by Acting Director of Information and Public Relations Azeez Sani, the council said the candidates came from the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and five foreign countries, and that the examination ran from April 20 to April 30.

NECO said the results were approved for release after its Award Committee met at the council’s headquarters in Minna. Committee chairperson Folake Olatunji David, who represented the Minister of Education, expressed satisfaction with the process. The meeting drew council management and selected school principals from across the country.

The committee fixed July 22 and 23 for a resit examination in Mathematics and English Studies, intended for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either or both subjects.

NECO said the resit would allow affected candidates to remedy their deficiencies and earn the certification needed for placement into senior secondary school without repeating a full academic year.
