Military Airstrikes Kill More Than 18 Terrorists, Destroy Logistics Hubs in Borno

The Nigerian military has reported the destruction of terrorist enclaves and logistics hubs in Borno State, with more than 18 terrorist elements reportedly killed during an air interdiction operation.

The operation was conducted by the Air Component of Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in coordination with ground troops of Sector 1 OPHK.

According to the Acting Military Information Officer of OPHK, Captain Mohammed Goni, the operation targeted Tumbunma Baba in the Tumbuns general area of Borno State following credible intelligence gathered over several weeks.

Goni said surveillance and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations subsequently confirmed the presence of high-profile terrorist elements, gathering points and logistics facilities in the area.

He said the intelligence-led operation was carried out in the early hours of Friday, September 11, with military aircraft engaging identified targets using precision munitions while ground troops blocked possible escape routes.

The military said the strikes destroyed the targeted structures and neutralised more than 18 terrorists, disrupting their logistics and reducing their ability to use the location as a gathering and support base.

A post-strike assessment reportedly indicated an estimated 85 per cent success rate in achieving the operation’s objectives.

Goni said the outcome demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations, timely ISR confirmation and coordination between air and ground forces.

He added that OPHK would continue intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists the opportunity to operate, regroup or establish logistics and support infrastructure across the North-East.

The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
