Man City Complete Dramatic Comeback to Beat Bournemouth 2-1

Manchester City began Enzo Maresca’s Premier League reign with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium.

Bournemouth stunned the home crowd in the 26th minute when Marcus Tavernier finished a swift attacking move to give the visitors a surprise lead.

City dominated possession for much of the first half but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities as Bournemouth defended resolutely and protected their advantage.

The hosts increased the pressure after the restart as Maresca made changes in search of an equaliser.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 85th minute when Marc Guéhi rose highest to head home from a corner and bring City level.

With the match appearing destined for a draw, City completed the comeback deep into stoppage time.

Josko Gvardiol found the net to send the Etihad Stadium into celebration, although the goal was initially ruled out for offside. VAR subsequently overturned the decision, confirming the late winner.

The victory gives Maresca a winning start to his first Premier League match in charge of City and provides an early boost as he begins his tenure.

For Bournemouth, the defeat represented a painful collapse after the visitors had held the lead for almost an hour before conceding twice in the final stages.

The result also offers City a measure of recovery following their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield and comes amid significant changes to the squad following Rodri’s departure to Barcelona.
